Division of Applied Visions on winning team led by ATC-NY to develop interactive visualizations to improve acquisition of forensic analysis skills.

NORTHPORT, NY, February 22, 2011 – Secure Decisions, a division of Applied Visions, Inc. (AVI) and developer of visual cyber defense and decision support tools, has been awarded a contract to support the development of a new digital forensics training system for the U.S. Air Force. As a member of the ATC-NY team that won the Phase II SBIR project, Secure Decisions is developing the visualization technology that will be integrated into the online forensic training program known as Alcuin. The current SBIR project is funded by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).

Under a separate Phase II SBIR contract award from AFRL, Secure Decisions is developing SimBLEND, a new web-based learning environment for training the next generation of cyber warriors. SimBLEND will provide a single platform for computer network defense (CND) analysts to learn fundamental concepts and practice their skills. By integrating computer-based courseware with automated performance evaluations of practical exercises through games and simulations, SimBLEND will help accelerate CND training and reinforce learned skills.

“According to a recent CSIS report, there is a shortage of 10,000 to 30,000 well-trained cyber soldiers to secure the cyberspace,” said Dr. Anita D’Amico, Director of Secure Decisions. “The Alcuin and SimBLEND programs are examples of Secure Decisions’ work with the Air Force to advance cyber security training in response to this critical need.”
