NORTHPORT, NY, April 16, 2013 – The Secure Decisions Division of Applied Visions has released a new version of its wireless network security visualization tool, MeerCAT Pro Version 4.1.
MeerCAT, a visualization tool to help identify wireless vulnerabilities and threats, and assess the risks to an organization was developed as part of a DARPA-funded research effort. It has helped many security professionals – including information security auditors, penetration vulnerability testers, and computer network defenders – conduct post-hoc analysis of data acquired from wireless site surveys and security audits. The data analyzed by MeerCAT is typically collected using “wardriving” software such as Flying Squirrel or Kismet that discover, identify, and locate wireless transmitters.
MeerCAT integrates wireless discovery data with a geographic information system (GIS) to provide a unified view of detected wireless devices, with their vulnerabilities and threats. This new version of MeerCAT provides many new features including a new Known Devices view to manage trusted, friendly, and rogue devices, an enhanced Geographic view including an additional border layer and navigation controls, addition of altitude data display for devices, an upgrade to NASA World Wind version 1.4, and more advanced device sorting features.
These new features will help current and future MeerCAT users by providing more in-depth capability, better user control, enhanced wireless data sorting and management – all to visualize a more accurate picture of the security state of their wireless networks. Frank Zinghini, President and CEO of Applied Visions, emphasizes that “MeerCAT continues to improve and evolve in response to what we are learning from our users. With thousands of copies of MeerCAT now in use, we are learning every day about how our users can benefit from MeerCAT’s capabilities. The wireless threat is constantly evolving, and our ability to improve MeerCAT to keep up with that evolution helps our users stay one step ahead of this critical threat.”
The new MeerCAT Pro Version 4.1 is currently available to interested cyber defenders. Please contact Secure Decisions at (631) 759-3988 or firstname.lastname@example.org for complete MeerCAT pricing and information.
MeerCAT was nominated as a finalist in the Best Intrusion Detection/Prevention Solution category in the Government Security News (GSN) 2012 Homeland Security Awards Program. To learn more about MeerCAT®, visit securedecisions.com/products/meercat.
