NORTHPORT, NY, November 10th, 2011 – The Secure Decisions Division of Applied Visions has been selected as a finalist in Government Security News’ (GSN) 2011 Homeland Security Awards Program. The winners’ trophies will be presented at the 2011 awards dinner, which will take place in Washington, DC, on Monday evening, November 14.
The GSN Homeland Security Awards Program honors the partnership between all branches of federal, state and local governments, and private sector vendors of IT security and physical security technologies. Their combined efforts successfully defend and protect the nation’s people, property, and way of life.
The GSN 2011 Homeland Security Awards are divided into three categories:
- Outstanding Vendors of IT Security Products and Solutions
- Outstanding Vendors of Physical Security Products and Solutions
- The Most Effective Federal, State, and Local Government Agency Programs, Projects, and Initiatives
MeerCAT® was initially developed as part of a DARPA-funded research effort into developing tools for visualizing mobile networks. It was based on the needs of DoD security professionals, such as information security auditors, penetration vulnerability testers, and computer network defenders, who conduct ‘wardrives’ to discover wireless networks (WiFi, 802.11 protocols).
MeerCAT® is a visualization tool developed to help decision makers locate wireless assets and networks, and assess the risks to their organization or mission. It is designed for post-hoc analysis of data acquired from a variety of sources that discover and locate wireless transmitters. MeerCAT® integrates this data with a geographic information system (GIS) to provide a unified view of detected wireless devices, their vulnerabilities and threats.
