Privacy Policy
Overview Your privacy is important to Applied Visions, Inc. (AVI, “we”, “our”, “us,” “Company”). Protecting your privacy is one facet of personalized services provided by the Company. This policy outlines AVI’s practices and policies regarding personally identifiable information (PII).
What We Keep and Why Should you choose to register on one of our web sites, an email address (as a minimum) and optionally a name or “handle” may be requested. In addition, should you choose to register in a separate forum, an additional email address, name or “handle” may be requested. While this information is available to the Company, you can set whether this becomes publicly viewable by setting your preferences. Allowing this information to persist electronically in a protected form at AVI simplifies your use of AVI web sites and allows content to be tailored to your needs and interests. To achieve this, AVI retains email, user-assigned ID’s, and at times certain other unique identifiers that comprise PII.
Nondisclosure In general, AVI will not share, rent or trade any of your personally identifiable information with any third parties.
When subcontractors working under direct supervision of Company employees access personally identifiable information, they are also bound by the Privacy Policy.
PII is provided to non-contract third parties only when AVI is compelled by law to make such disclosures.
Access to PII PII will never knowingly appear in public areas of our web site, however, it may be used by AVI employees or subcontractors working on AVI’s behalf to protect AVI against illegal network attacks or fraudulent acts.
From time to time, the Company may run special competitions or surveys. The information collected will remain within AVI and not be made public, unless specified otherwise. Participation in such events is optional and any deviations from the Privacy Policy of the web site will be disclosed at that time.
Metrics Technical information related to your computer and the manner in which you are accessing our site is collected and retained. This includes such information as the IP address and operating system of your computer, what browser you’re using, your Internet service provider, the Uniform Resource Locator ("URL") of the web site from which you just came and the URL to which you go next. In addition, the Company collects certain operating metrics, such as the amount of time you visit our web site and the order in which you traverse the site. This general information is used to help us better understand how our site is viewed and used.
Cookies are utilized to maintain session state while you are connected to AVI web sites. Cookies are not retained on our servers. You may purge these yourself using browser settings.
Controlled Use of Metrics The Company will not disclose PII as part of summarizations about its sites shared with our business partners or the general public. For example, AVI may share information regarding the daily number of unique users to its sites with potential partners or advertising opportunities. This information does not contain any of your personal data that can be used to contact you or identify you.
Updating PII In general, AVI provides an online form through which you can self-maintain your PII. In addition, you can request that the information collected about you be updated at any time by sending an email to the site administrator. You can also request that information collected by us about you be removed from the site. While every attempt will be made to honor such requests, such requests are subject to the following additional restrictions:
- Offline history contained on backup devices but no longer available online will not be purged
- An attempt will be made to respond in a reasonable time to such requests, in the course of ordinary business. It may take up to 60 days to complete such removals.
- Information posted to public forums is considered the property of AVI and removal of forum content is at the discretion of AVI.
Safeguards Once any personally identifiable information is received by our servers, it is protected by a dedicated firewall appliance to deter unauthorized use or activity. Although we will make every effort to safeguard your personal information from loss, misuse or alteration by third parties, you should be aware that there is always some risk that thieves may find a way to thwart our security system, or that transmissions over the Internet will be intercepted.
Opt-Out Email Policy In general, AVI will request permission to send newsletters or similar email items using your email address. When such content is sent to you, each item will contain a hyperlink to a site where you may opt out of the list.
You are responsible for maintaining email address accuracy and monitoring the status of your email boxes. Due to the high volume of spam, and the proactive actions taken by major internet service providers, email bounces will result in relatively prompt removal of addresses from AVI lists.
Privacy Policy Updates Applied Visions may, from time to time, amend its Privacy Policy. We reserve the right, at our discretion, to change, modify, add or remove portions of the AVI Privacy Policy at any time. These changes will be posted for general public view. When you visit our sites, you must agree to all terms of our Privacy Policy. Your continued use of this web site constitutes your continued agreement to these terms. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please cease using our web sites.
Third Party Content When we place external links or advertising banners to other sites from our sites, please note that Applied Visions, Inc. does not control the content, practices or privacy policies of any of these other sites. We do not endorse or hold ourselves responsible for the privacy policies or information gathering practices of any other web sites. AVI recommends that visitors should become acquainted with the privacy policy of any site where you have decided to provide PII.
